2011 Scene of the Crime
Short Mystery Story Contest

Below you will find the guidelines for the 2011 Scene of the Crime Short Mystery Story Contest. This year's prizes:

First Prize: $100
Second Prize: $50
Third Prize: $35

Contest Guidelines

  • Contest open to Canadian citizens or those resident in Canada and not previously published in the mystery or crime fiction genre.
  • Previous 1st place winners are ineligible.
  • Only one story per author per year
  • Submission deadline June 1st, 2011
  • Send submission as MSWord or RTF attachment by email to contest@sceneofthecrime.ca.
  • In order to facilitate blind judging, include a cover page with author name, address, phone number and email address.
  • The full title of the story must appear on both the cover sheet and every page of the story. Each page must be numbered.
  • Story must be in English and must not exceed 3500 words
  • Stories must be original and unpublished
  • Stories must be fiction and a mystery (crime, suspense, private eye, etc.).
  • No changes will be allowed to a story once it has been received.
  • Winners will be notified by email on or before June 30, 2011.
  • Results will be posted on the Scene of the Crime website.
  • If you wish your story to be critiqued by a professional author and editor, please send a cheque for $10 made out to Scene of the Crime Festival to: Short Story Contest, P.O. Box 28, Wolfe Island, Ontario, K0H 2Y0. Please identify yourself and your story.
