The Wolfe Island Prize: Scene of the Crime Short Story Contest

The Wolfe Island Scene of the Crime Festival has announced the winners of its annual short-story contest.

Congratulations, winners of the 2007 Wolfe Island Prize:

First Place: William Hay of Kingston, for his story "A Woman Scorned."

Second Place: Rob Price of Coldwater, ON, for his story "The Greatest Stunt Ever."

Third Place: Paul Lalonde of Toronto, for his story "The Projectionist."

February 24 marks the birthday of Grant Allen, Canada's first crime writer, and every year on that date we announce our short story contest. What better way to celebrate the occasion than to give other Canadians a chance to have their first mystery story published?

Any Canadian citizen, or any resident of Canada, is eligible to enter the contest, providing they are previously unpublished in the crime or mystery genre. We also have to exclude any previous winners — the judges may be partial to them already!

The first place winner receives a cheque for $50 and sees his or her story published in Kingston Life Magazine. Second and third places winners each receive a $25 gift certificate from Kingston's Novel Idea Book Store. If it happens that they don't live closely enough to Kingston to drop by the store, an alternative prize is worked out with the winner. All three winners receive a certificate suitable for framing, and everyone who submits a story will receive a brief critique on request.

Watch this space for next year's announcement and guidelines.
